Full CoverageShelves go dry, services collapse, anti-rights forces surge and deepen the crises
The sudden withdrawal of US funding has disrupted HIV, reproductive health and community-based services in Kenya, leaving medicine shelves empty and contributing to rising pregnancies, unsafe abortions and HIV infections. As anti-rights groups exploit the resulting gaps, health leaders call for stronger government systems, integrated care, domestic funding, digital health solutions and rights-based services to protect vulnerable communities and keep the global AIDS response on track
Communities must be financed, not just celebrated, says UNAIDS' Eamonn Murphy ahead of AIDS 2026
UNAIDS Regional Director Eamonn Murphy has urged governments to move beyond celebrating community organizations and instead provide sustained funding, stronger partnerships, and leadership roles in the global HIV response. Speaking ahead of AIDS 2026, he stressed that achieving the 2030 HIV targets, including 95-95-95 and 30-80-60, depends on empowering and financing community-led services, protecting human rights, and translating political commitments into funded national action.
