Scientific, transparent and applicable rankings of Chinese guidelines and consensus published in the medical journals between 2023 and 2024

To further promote continuous quality improvement of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and expert consensuses (ECs) in China, the Scientific, Transparent, and Applicable Rankings (STAR) Working Group conducted its 2023-2024 biennial appraisal based on its previous work. In this round, 40 specialty committees and over 1 000 experts participated, and large language model technologies were integrated to comprehensively evaluate guidelines and consensuses led by Chinese scholars and published in...

Managing manuscripts with potential dual-use research of concern: A thematic analysis of life science journal policies

CONCLUSION: Many life science journals continue to lack explicit DURC policies. Among those with policies, there is a shared expectation that authors, reviewers, and editors are adequately trained to recognize and manage DURC-related risks, an assumption that may be unwarranted.

A national survey of BOFAS members on the treatment of primary osteochondral lesions of the talus

INTRODUCTION: Osteochondral defects (OCDs) of the talus are a "TOP 10" research priority in foot and ankle surgery, identified by the James Lind Alliance in partnership with BOFAS, BOA and NIHR. To inform a research strategy, the treatment preferences of BOFAS members were surveyed.

Optimising the Delphi survey method during core set development: The impact of summarised feedback on stakeholders' prioritisation of core data items and consensus

CONCLUSION: Providing participants with additional feedback during the process of item prioritisation did not promote prioritisation of items during development of a core set. In the development of health core sets, where often many items are prioritised, further work to determine how to clearly and optimally communicatee feedback in a manner that promotes consensus effectively is required. Specifically, qualitative work with relevant stakeholders, exploring and clarifying the concepts of...

The great awakening: A 15-year bibliometric analysis of the global surge in sleep research

CONCLUSIONS: Our findings reveal that diverse scientific disciplines are increasingly incorporating sleep as a key research variable, as evidenced by the significant growth in sleep-related publications within their specialized journals. This trend underscores a growing recognition of sleep's fundamental role in physiological mechanisms and its crucial influence on health. The broader dissemination of sleep science across these distinct fields enables researchers to develop specialized...

Mapping the landscape and evolution of drug delivery for glioma: a bibliometric and visual analysis

CONCLUSIONS: This bibliometric analysis demonstrates that glioma drug delivery research is steadily advancing toward precision theranostics with a maturing knowledge structure focused on intelligent nanocarriers. Global outputs are dominated by China and the United States, with research themes evolving from conventional nanocarriers to biomimetic systems, exosomes, and immunotherapy. Future studies may prioritize AI-assisted design and immunomodulatory strategies to address translational...

Publication patterns of posters and oral presentations at the annual joint AANS/CNS Spine Summit

CONCLUSIONS: Almost two-thirds of the abstract-based articles were published in peer-reviewed journals. Compared with an earlier study on publication trends for abstracts presented at the Spine Summit, there has been a notable increase.

Editorial policies for ethical use of artificial intelligence in rheumatology journals

CONCLUSIONS: Indexed rheumatology journals demonstrate variable editorial policies of enforcing AI guidance. While the adoption of AI-related policies is mostly improving, a marked heterogeneity still exists, particularly between top-tier and lower-tier journals. Upgrades of editorial policies are warranted to safeguard the integrity and transparency of rheumatology sources.

The UN SDGs as a global 'directive shift' and the institutionalization of sustainability research

This paper examines how the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) shape the institutionalization of sustainability research within scholarly publishing. We argue that the SDGs operate as a globally endorsed form of external research agenda-setting, constituting a "directive shift" in science. Focusing on SDG 04 (Quality Education), SDG 08 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), we analyse changes in Scopus-indexed journals from 1990 to 2024. Using large-scale...

Media coverage of doping: subjective perceptions, evaluations, and perceived effects among elite athletes

INTRODUCTION: Media coverage of doping almost always focuses solely on athletes. But do they even read reports on doping? How do athletes evaluate doping coverage? And what impact can doping reports have on elite athletes?

Global burden of enteric infectious diseases, diarrhoeal diseases, and corresponding aetiologies, 1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023

BACKGROUND: Enteric infectious diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are among the top ten causes of death in children younger than 5 years. Remarkable global investment has been dedicated to enteric infectious disease prevention and control; however, the shifting global health landscape is testing the continuance of progress. To evaluate the current status and guide future interventions, we present the latest epidemiological estimates of enteric infectious diseases from the...

Real-World Treatment Patterns for Patients with High-Risk Biochemically Recurrent Nonmetastatic Castration‑Sensitive Prostate Cancer

CONCLUSIONS: In our real-world analysis, patients with high-risk biochemically recurrent prostate cancer rapidly received first-line treatment after diagnosis. The top reason for treatment choice was adherence to guidelines. Our finding that patients with biochemical recurrence are promptly treated in the real world aligns with guidance suggesting clinical benefit of early intervention.
