Trends in dermatological research publications in the Arab world from 2000 to 2023: a bibliometric analysis.

Abstract

This bibliometric analysis examines the publication trends in dermatology within the Arab world from 2000 to 2023. The study highlights the region's scientific contributions and evaluates the global visibility and impact of dermatological research. The Web of Science (WoS) database was employed to conduct a retrospective bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric indicators, like the global overview of dermatology research, categorization of research by country, citation metrics, annual growth rates, leading publishing journals, prominent countries, authorship patterns, authors, and analysis of the top key words, were analyzed. VOSviewer software was employed. The authors from Arab countries produced 2,390 dermatology records from 2000 to 2023, representing 2.22% of global dermatology research. Saudi Arabia (35%) and Egypt (26.73%) were the primary contributors. The Cureus journal was the preferred publication, while Hamida Turki was recognized as the most prolific author. The study illustrates consistent growth in dermatology research and collaboration, with prospects for future advancement.
